I have the Rugged Ridge CB mount as well and just yesterday replaced my old Cobra 19 LX IV that was dead with a Uniden 880. So far I like it alot, though the radio is a but heavier and bigger then the Cobra so the mount shakes a bit.....I will have to firm it up a bit when I get a chance. I run a Teraflex tailgate antenna mount with a 2' firestick 2 antenna. If your not going to use the SSB in the 980 just get the 880 or the 680. The 680 is quite a bit smaller. Good luck in your choice.

The one I plan to buy is the Cobra 75 WX ST. It's functional and takes up minimal space. Originally I wanted a regular style setup for the cool factor, but space is a hot commodity in a 2 door. From what I understand, it's antenna and placement that are the most important part. You're better off with a well placed antenna good antenna than a good radio. For this reason most suggest not putting it on the rear tailgate, they recommend the front left side of the hood(someone makes a mount), or a raised tailgate mount such as the one I have. It has to do with the antenna needing some space from other metals, and not parrallel to an at metal, or something like that. I won't bore you with details. Good luck to you!

as far as radios... avoid LCD
i got the cooltech ultramount kit (works perfect)
i had a bracket welded to put a full size radio above the mirror (cost me $60 at a local shop)
so far i had:
bracket - great, antenna / mount - great.
i checked out different radios, ended up with a cobra 29 LX (i initially wanted the 29 LTD chrome, as i liked the looks).
i could not see the 29 LX at an angle.... the LCD panel was not readable from the driver seat. i had to lean over to the center console whenever i wanted to change a channel etc.
my brother in law is now putting the new LCD panel cobra 29 LX in his ford truck.
i went and got a 29 LTD chrome it's awesome. thats all i can say
now i did luck out, the 29 LX came with a freebie i could use and definitely needed.
it came with a gear keeper. basically i made a little hook, the gear keeper & hook attached to my roll bar, on the other end the gear keeper attaches to the microphone. it stays up out of the way and i can just reach up behind my right shoulder & grab the mic when i want to talk, no futzing with clips etc. (google gear keeper or go here http://www.gearkeeper.com/communicat...mickeeper.html)
to summarize: avoid LCD panel cb radios unless you can aim it at your face. the LED cobra cb's - 25 LTD or 29 LTD or 29 LTD Chrome(or take off brands) work perfect, because you can see them at most any angle.

Cobra CB with Weather Radio
I am running the Cobra 29 LX 40-Channel CB Radio with Instant Access 10 NOAA Weather Stations and Selectable 4 Color Display and I have had it for around 3 years! This came from my Dakota, and in May of '14 I installed it in my JK! I am a storm chaser and meteorologist so the built in weather radio functions were a big plus, and being able to set it up with auto scanning weather channels behind the scenes and still use the cb radio was absolutely what I needed! And I love the ability to customize what the display shows a bit, as well as changing the color of the face! And I also have the rugged ridge cb mount for above the rear view mirror and the radio fits perfectly between the visors with the mic hanging on the passenger side of the radio! I also have a 4' Firestick antenna with the rugged ridge CB antenna mount attached with the rear tire carrier. I did an install write up on my build page post #4, 6, and 13-16! Check that out if you want more info with how I installed it! However, with that antenna mount and the stock tire and rim, I could not get the antenna to attach to the mount to the outside of the two holes as the stock tire was in the way, just overhanging slightly, but the inner mount was just fine!
Here's a few pics and the link to where I got it on Amazon is above:
