Default Question about Cobra 75 install

I have a cobra 75 with 18' coax and 4' firestix. I bought the cool tech kit that included the license plate mount and installed it and ran the antenna cable under my carpet. Do I need to make an additional ground for the antenna? If so, how and where do I attach and ground? I mounted the unit under dash. I tuned my cb on channel 1 and channel 40. Have both of them reading 1.3. Is that good ebough? I have rode around with it on and have been able to hear people.
Any info would be great thanks.

I bought a 15" ground strap from Advanced Auto Parts. I grounded one end to the sub mount bolt and one to the tailgate. I have the Smittybilt G.E.A.R. so I used one of those screws as the other end

So just put the strap on the screw that holds the antenna wire and then run it to a ground screw? Is a ground something I have to have on the antenna?

Of your swr is that low I would leave it alone. Anything under 2 is safe. 1.3 is great!

I ran that CoolTech mount for a few years. The mount grounds itself to the tub so additional ground strap is not really needed.

If you are getting 1.3 across the band leave it alone and walk away!

I called cooltech today. They told me how to ground the ultramount by sanding the paint off of the tub and tightening the bolt onto nut and washer. Did that. Now with swr I'm reading 3.5 on both channels 1 and 40. Assuming it still is a ground issue. Attached is a photo of where I sanded around the place where the washer and nut attach. Any other ideas?

What happened to your 1.3 SWR reading? Why did you mess with it?

Same freaking thing happened to me. I have the spare mount. I had the spare off doing some other things and decided to sand it down. Now at 3.5 on both 1 and 40. Really pissing me off. Don't feel like taking it all back apart.

Sounds like your antenna mount insulator is not in proper position. Take the nut loose and re-align it.
