I've been a Uniden fan for some time. This 980SSB is hard to beat in a Jeep. The guys who like to tweak their radios aren't likely to care as much for them because there is little you can do to them without getting quite in depth. Out of the box they're hard to beat for the money.

I got the 980 for Christmas. Haven't installed yet (hoping to pop it in the dash) but will run it above the rear view for now. Got the external speaker for it as well. Bought a 5' Firestik and am a little concerned it might be too tall for trail use.

That just depends on where you mount it. My antenna sticks up pretty high. Its hard to see in this pic but you can see it. It sticks up about a 12-14" above my roofline:

The only place it give my trouble is in parking garages... lol

Gotta watch out for parking garages!

Main reason I went 5' is for highway travel and signal. Every September I go to Colorado with buddies and we all have cb radios in our caravan. I figured it would get out further on I-70.
