Default VHF radios, antenna, and mounting

I'm looking to get a new vhf radio to mount in my 2014 jk for upcoming coyote season and am wondering if anyone has a make and model radio, antenna, and antenna mounting location that works well. Not looking to spend a fortune, probably around 300.00 max. I've looked on basspro.com and like the looks and simplicity of some of the Uniden models. Im just not sure about antennas or mounting locations, especially after reading some other posts on here that specifically talk about CB and Hamm antenna mounting locations. Any thoughts?

I'm still trying to figure out the antenna mounting location for mine. I have a Motorola CM-300. I'm thinking I will mount the radio itself on the driver side of the console down by the transfer case shift lever, and for the antenna I am thinking of using a Laird Technologies flat mount to mount it on the cal in the seam between the finder and the hood. The one thing I know for sure is the antenna needs to be away from the radio antenna or you get crazy interference every time you key the mic.

I have a Kenwood dual band in my 2014 JKU. For driving around town, I have a shorty MFJ 1402 antenna (http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Produc...ctid=MFJ-1402B) on a mount from Arizona Rocky Road (http://www.arizonarockyroad.com). The tip of the antenna only sticks up about 4" above the hard top, but I'm able to hit a repeater here in town from about 45 or 50 miles away. For trails and other remote locations I have the longer 40" MFJ-1412 (http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Produc...uctid=MFJ-1412). If you go with an Arizona Rocky Road mount (I think they're great, BTW), you'll need to either specify the mounting size (CB antennas use a 1/4" connection, NMO antennas use a 5/8") or you'll just need to take the mount to a machinist to get bored a bit (assuming it's the 1/4" size and you need a NMO antenna).

If you haven't already checked it out, eHam.net has an extensive list of reviews on radios and antennas (http://www.eham.net/reviews/).
