HAM / Amateur Radio is another example that requires licensing. Further to this licensing, most bands have a requirement that the station operator identify themselves when on the air within certain intervals. A way to identify is through the use of a call sign. TV and commercial radio stations have them and you'll hear them identifying themselves even if you don't realize it. "You're watching WKBW" or "Best rock hits only on CILQ".
HAM radio operators also have this requirement to identify themselves when on the air. They use calls such as K1BMW, or VA3DKM (that's mine). What's interesting is that there are different patterns or conventions with the calls so you can know where in the world they are, sometimes down to the state/province. Also, some letters/numbers in the call can give an indication of what level/proficiency the operator is licensed for.
Hope this helps some.

Refer to section 97.119 for requirements of station identification. On a phone band you can self-identify in English or CW, amongst other means. Get cracking so we can say "Welcome aboard!"
