Default Fan motor resistor

Hey. Please don't let this thread turn into hate for stealerships, I know they suck, but I took my rig there only because the dash is such an incredible pain to disassemble.

This is on a 2007. The right side 12V outlet died, fuse is good, dealer confirmed it has power, socket itself is bad. They want $212. Can I replace this myself without taking off the dash?

Bigger issue: fan speeds don't work and recirc button is nonfunctional, fan control dial got super hot. Dealer says BOTH the fan motor and fan motor resistor need to be replaced. I asked how could it be both, they said they can only order both (I call BS on that). They want $535. Way too much $ for me, but I'm considering it only because I really don't want to take the dash off myself, and can't live without any climate control.

Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Look up, under the dash, from the right front footwell. You'll see the fan, held in by just 3 screws.
The resister pack is in the same area. See the arrow.

According to a quick google search...
Blower motor is about $85.
Resister pack is about $12.

I would replace the resister pack first. It's cheap and easy to replace.
See if the fan speeds come back, see if the speed dial quits getting hot, and see if the recirc door resumes operation.
Be careful, though. There's no telling what else might be going on in there.

There's not much disassembly required to replace your socket. If you look into radio replacement directions from Crutchfield then you'll be on the right track. Pull the top piece, unscrew the visible dash bolts, pull the vents (twist), then pull the center dash piece. Maybe a 10 min job.

Job done. 5 minutes and $12. Wow, that's $500 in my pocket.
