So I was looking everywhere on the forums and could not find a thread on this topic. Sorry if there already was one that I couldn't find. This is my first thread on the forum.

I just bought a 2013 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited and noticed the gear indicator bezel did not light up at night. Today, I took apart the console and found a bulb was burnt out under the gear indicator.

For $4 at Advance Auto I fixed the problem. It requires a Sylvania 2721 bulb. They come in a pack of two.

I wanted to post this in case anyone else was in my position wondering why it want lighting up and what bulb number to grab.

I had to watch a couple of YouTube vids and then just try prying them with a screwdriver. They were somewhat tough to get off but very easy to put back on Sent from my iPhone using JK-Forum

Thanks for the part number. Perfect fit.

For those looking to do this you do not need to remove the entire console. Remove the center panel with mesh net below the heater controls. Remove the transfer case knob. Then pull up on the insert in the center console. I grabbed in the hole for the parking brake. Once that is removed you can twist out the holder (clockwise) for the bulb with a pair of needle nose pliers.

After replacing the bulb on my 2009 it now illuminates the entire strip of PNDR.

My question is for those with the older interior is there something that tells you which gear you are in (besides on the dash)? All I get is the entire strip illuminated, no specific gear indication.

I know that this question is several years old, but my 2010 JK just had the bulb go out under the gear indicator strip and I found this thread to figure out what bulb I need to replace it with? I can also assure you that the whole strip lights up and does NOT change or indicate what gear you are in, just lights your selections with the teal/green color. Did you use the Sylvania 2721 bulb to replace yours?

I did this today on my '15 sport. I tried with all my might and couldn't get the damned 4WD shifter knob off. So I worked blindly under the loosened console. It was a major pain getting the new bulb locked back in place, but I eventually managed it. I used a type 37 bulb, but a 2721 and a 74 will also work.
