Default Hiding my GPS power cable.

As you can see in the pictures the power for my GPS is large and if I say so unsightly. I have no issue with cutting off the end to hard wire it (kind have to to get it to fit in the grating for the windshield vents) but I don't know where to hook it up at. Any ideas would be great.

Well, if you want it to be switchable with the ignition, you could splice into the wiring for the power outlet that is on the lower right.

I thought about doing that but wasn't sure if it would pop the fuse or damage the wiring if I ended up plugging something into the receptacle.

Doubtful, but if you want to do it RIGHT.

Then I would mount a fuse block under the hood that is switched. Then run power from that to your GPS as that isolates whatever wiring you do from the factory harness.

I imagine that under the plastic defroster vents by the window is a plastic vent diffuser. Stuffing a wire through the vents would probably only put it in the defroster air duct.

What mount are you using for your GPS to the dash tray?

Don't cut and rewire the plug!!!!
It is also a voltage reduction, you'll fry your GPS, trust me...

I bought a 12v power supply at the local parts store and used it's cround connection to bolt it to one of the grounds under the dash on the kick plate. That way I run the power cable off my Garmin straight down to the windshield dash gap, across and down the inside of the dash and plug it in.
No cutting, just picked up run power from the fuse block.

My tomtom uses a USB plug for its power. I haven't wired it in yet, but I have a USB connector that wires into the 12v system. I plan to wire that under the dash and run the GPS cable to it. The USB connectors are considerably smaller than the cigarette lighter connectors. Just do an Amazon search for 12v USB connector. Tons available and are pretty cheap.

I drilled a hole in the right side, down in the tray. The wire the goes down inside the console to the right of the radio and is tapped into the 12v accessory jack. To make it even cleaner I ordered a 90degree right angle micro usb charging cable so it comes straight down from what it is plugged into. Clean with no cables dangling around.

Been doing some more looking into how I want to do this and this is want I've found. This cable from Garmin which is made to be hard wired for power and fleet management, which I don't need so I'll just cut those back and cap them, and add either a 3 or 7 Painless Performance fuse block as a secondary fuse block.
