Default looking to tap into cig lighter wire

anyone know the wire color for the cig lighter (and where to find it?), maybe under the dash so i dont have to take the dash apart just to tap into a wire? Otherwise, I'm prepared to take the dash apart

Just use a fuse tap and bring through firewall. Do a search here for "hard wire"

I tapped into my cig lighter for switchable power for a relay this weekend. On my 08 I believe it was a purple wire leading from the cig lighter itself. There are two wires, a black with white strip and another one, it's the other one in case it is not quite purple.

It doesn't take much to get to it, just pop off the top plate where the compass sits, pop off the bottom plate just above the shifter and then its 4 screws to take the entire panel off. Shouldn't take more then a few minutes.

Other option as the previous poster mentioned is the fuse tap.

Word of caution if u don't already know, the cigarette lighter is always hot with 12 volts, the accessory port is switched with ignition.

This is a possible solution. You can choose hot all the time, hot when in accessory, hot when in run only.

Careful what purpose you 'tap' the hot cigarette lighter wire for. I used it to have an ignition switched postive to 130w lights, and JK's computer brain didn't like the draw, and intermitantly shut off power to this cigarette lighter wiring. I then found an alternate power.

I haven't seen any evidence the computer controls power to the cigarette lighter power, (the one that's always hot).
The switched power outlet gets 12 volts from the same source as a lot of other switched items. You must have also lost power to them as well.

I had this happen on mine, and this circuit shut-off due to overload was discussed on the forum several years ago.

To the OP, what are you looking to power from this wiring ?
