The CW sub & box are quick and easy. Since the main speakers are only 6.5 inch size it will add the low frequencies back in. But, with a small enclosure and shallow(short throw) sub it won't dig down to the really low frequencies. It just won't move that much air. I'm trying to avoid the shallow mount subs with a custom box out of the way so I can get the biggest bang for my buck. In short: it depends on what you want to gain.

The CW sub won't fit under the front seat. There's only about 4" of depth at the rear of the seat and the seat brackets are only 11" wide.

I think you are selling a shallow sub very short. The Sundown subs that I use have over 2" of X-mech, handle a conservative 500 watts each and easily reach 25hz in a .6 cu ft sealed box. Took a quick RTA measure with the top off at about 30% volume level. No bass boost, still messing with cross-over frequencies.

Of course a couple 15s in a huge box will blow them away, but the goal here was stealth, low bass and SQ

The CW compact unit has similar dimensions to the Kicker Hideaway unit, and I'm likely going to see if the underseat trays, another forum member makes, are still on ebay. That provides a means to stash the unit and allow it to be bolted down in a way that makes it difficult to pinch.

Have to say, the craftsmanship of Mattk11 is seriously impressive, and I might be swayed down that road one day.

The Sundown is definitely a different animal. I was thinking more along the lines of the Pioneer and Kenwood shallow mount subs. I looked at these first when looking at making a small box, but was not happy with their reviews and performance specs. I'm going to move forward with making my box to .59 cu. ft. (leaving the lower part off the design) and get the Sundown SD 10. I'll keep posting the progress.

Played around with some cardboard again. I made this around the specs of the Sundown SD 10. Here's a pic of the latest design. The total volume will be 0.496 cubic feet. About spot on for the Sundown SD 10. This also simplifies the construction (for easier replication and my own sanity). The depth of the box will be 6.25 inches. I need a new saw blade and I'll start cutting.

Anyone know why my photos always get rotated and how to fix that?

Remember the Sundown SD-2 or SD-3 takes up about .08 to .09 cu ft so you need to make your box 5.8 - .6 cu ft as a starting point. If you are cramped for space, the 8" SD-2 outperforms most 10" subs you will find.

I know some out there are watching this so, there's been some progress (I got distracted with my soft top). I went through 3 more cardboard designs. I settled on this one. The new goal is a 0.6 cubic foot box with enough depth(keeping it as shallow a box as possible) for the Sundown SD-3-10. I cut the front and back pieces to this shape. Next up is ripping the side pieces and all those angles.

So you're not going with the underseat box? I may start to take measurements these next few days since there's a slight possibility I will have some free time. Definitely following this thread though

There's been some progress on this project. The box is built, glued, and screwed. I purchased a Sundown SD-3 10in sub and that got delivered. I've never used anything by Sundown, but just doing an inspection I'm impressed. I also picked up a speaker terminal cup, some carpet and adhesive. The holes for the speaker terminals and sub are cut. I pre-drilled the holes for the speaker terminal cup. I'm using some small wood screws for it. I drilled all the holes for the sub and mounted 10-24 T nuts with a little glue (just in case). I'm waiting for delivery of a 1.5in x 1.5in x 1/4in angle aluminum stock. I mocked up the mounting using some corner braces, but I don't thing it will hold. The plan is to use the hard top bolt holes (2x) with the angle stock and 3 or 4 bolts through the sub box itself. So close...
