Default Switching from one stock head unit to another

My current head unit has decided it likes to eat CD's... and that is kind of annoying.
I can pick up another stock head unit for free from a fellow jeep club member.
Is this a straight swap? or is there some kind of programming that needs to be done?
I remember changing a stereo in a old car of mine, and you needed to have the correct PIN to get it it work.
Also, i am not interersted in an aftermarket head unit at the moment, since i can possibly fix this problem for free.

Thanks!

if the previous vehicle had anti theft (it will say on the radio) then you will need to get that pin, or have the dealer activate the radio. Do a search on here to find out how to get that PIN number, its here somewhere
