Well, got some work done last night. Unfortunately, it was not for my Jeep... Welded on Artec gussets and skids for a club member. The upside is that it was a new crate D44. Welding onto an unmolested axle is a really nice change of pace. However, seeing it next to my new axles makes me wonder how it ever handled 37s??

Swapping his front axle tonight and installing sleeves, and then back to my regularly scheduled Jeep build.

Axles are almost done. I tore them down, media blasted and painted everything but the housing. No sense doing that until I'm done with all the welding. I forgot to get pictures though... Dropped them off at Rock Solid Performance last night for gears and lockers. I'll grab some while I'm up there tomorrow.

I seem to be getting parts daily. Here's some pictures of the lockers. They're massive and weigh a metric crap ton. Tossed a quart bottle in for size reference. It could easily fit inside the body of the lockers. 35 spline D60 left and 35 spline sterling 10.5 right. Went with 5.38 gears, which should be a good match with the 3.6L. If not, I'll get a Magneson super charger.

Forgot, my custom drilled ATX Chamber Pro II's came in. Pretty excited about them. They come with two valve holes, so I'll be using a standard valve in one and monster valves in the other. Airing 37s down and up took forever, I'm not using a standard valve on 40s!

Subscribed! Love the builds that aren't purely bolt ons and have a lot of thought in them!

Drain the gear oil after pulling the axles and ring teeth fell out of the front (D44). As you can see in the pictures, it's a case of shock load. Big tires get traction and all the teeth engaged with the pinion at that moment, break off. And they leave a distinct crystal looking structure behind.

Love it! I think the difference is you wheel it and some with 37's and a D30 don't! Great pic that should go into the "I want to run 37's and don't see why I need to upgrade my D30!" threads!

You get the standard zips? Thats what i want up front. The comp style is crazy and fails locked... I debated trying it but really have no need lol.

I debated on Zips and ARBs. Not much price difference for my axles. Never gave thought to the competition Zips. I'll break a lot of stuff before these lockers go. I decided on the Zips for a few reasons: I think the video ARB made trashing Yukon was BS, they're made in the USA, and replacement parts/hoses will be easier to source vs. ARB metric.

I was already debating front axle shafts. The stock fronts are huge and have 1480 joints, but I see now they are the weak link. RCV is the only after market option right now. Not sure I can swallow $2300 for front shafts...

I definitely wouldn't run 37s on a D30. I think my broken front D44 may be due to a bad gear setup, but I'll never know for sure. That said, it's the rest of the axle that can't handle 37s. Ball joints, unit bearings, wheel bearings. Seems ridiculous to drop a ton of cash on something that still isn't up for the task.

Random, but I'd still like to know why I was singled out and relocated to a part of the forum I didn't know existed? There's a crap ton of build threads in JK Show & Tell. Which mod did I piss off? I still can't figure out where this thread exists unless I go through my profile.

Is there anyone subscribed that isn't on JK Freaks or JK Owners? I'm thinking I'll end this thread and link it to those sites. Not a great use of time if a handful of people will see it here as it's buried in a black hole, and I'm pretty sure everyone subscribed is on the other forums.

What do you think?
