Sallys build of "Wilma" 15' JKU sport
BeforeI introduce you “Wilma” the rock crusher, let me tell you more of my wheelingback story. When I was in the military Iwas stationed in Arizona.Living in thedesert I realized I needed a jeep.Likeevery young 20’s something I bought a Jeep XJ that was fairly clean. The pitch to my wife was to “get out andexplore Arizona”.Well exploring led towheeling then led to racing.I turnedthe XJ in to capable trail rig to a top 10 KOH EMC finisher and a constant podiumfinisher in W.E. Rocks Dirt Riot series.
Welllife happened and my family grew from my wife and I to my wife and I plusone. So with the new addition and nolonger in the military and starting a new career I knew racing was not going tobe happening.I parted out the race XJand bought a 2015 White JKU sport.Brandnew and plenty stock but that didn’t stop me from taking it out.
Iused my money I made from selling race car parts to fund the JKU build. The Jeep got the name Wilma from the Flintstonesas she is my rock crusher.
Wellenough talk, time for photos.
Partsbegan showing up.
Got theArtec axle armor and trusses weldedup.I did not due this welding.Welding to axles is not in my comfort zoneyet.
Re-usedmy race radio as its more capable then a CB.
Scoreda free set of Rubicon rock rails, so fresh coat of paint and mounted them
Next upwas cutting the factory frame rails, yes less then a year old and cutting framealready lol. This was needed to acceptthe Crawler concepts stubby rock crawler bumper. Then mounted the smittybuilt winch.
Upnext was the Metal Cloak 3.5” short arm kit with dual rate progressive springs.
Reusedmy old race tires which were 35x12.5x17 Goodyear MTR/K. Have 6 of them so figured why not.Mounted them to the factory wheels.
Cutfactory flares to make stubby/flat flares and reused inner front liners. Not bad for being bored in the garage.
Nextup was gears, lockers and diff covers. Letzroll Offroad racing did the set up/install.Went with Yukon 4.88 gears F/R.front D30 got 4340 chromoly shafts as extrainsurance. Front got a Yukon zip locker (air), and the rear got a Yukon Grizzlylocker both were sealed with Solid diff covers.
Next upis the switch panel to handle air compressor, locker and lights.
Scoredsome amber rigid dually lights from a fellow racer for cheap, and went toamazon and got the light bar bracket and amazon special 50” radius bar. Doesn’t get used as much so no need tojustify the name brand price tag.Sorry.

tried attaching photos to thread under each section, wasn't allowing me though so you'll have to click on them to see them bigger sorry.
dented the door and destroyed the ring and pinion on chocolate thunder. New gears went in yesterday and the jeep is good to go.
waiting on my ADS racing shocks to get back. Kept my old ones from the XJ. Same length so having the guys go through them and freshen them up. They are 2.5" bodies with reservoirs, should compliment the metal cloak springs nicely.
