Default Differential breather tubes

Has anybody extended their breather tube line above stock? If so what did you do?

I installed Uncle Bob's (or was it John's?) kit from River Raider.

I went the non-kit route.

BTW, for anyone reading this: If you have a 3.6L motor, Uncle Bob's kit, unless they've changed it, is not the optimal solution. That is, they make the same kit as for the 3.8L, and one of the connectors (the large T that is used at the engine a1r filter intake) is better replaced with a Y connector.

Finally, a caution for anyone who extends their differential breathers to the air intake: Learn how to properly fill your differentials, especially if you have aftermarket covers. You do not want gear lube venting into the engine intake because you overfilled your differentials.

10' of 3/8" fuel line. Simple and cheap. Ran the front axle breather up to the top of the firewall and rear axle up into the taillight area.

Bought some coated steel brake line and cut in into 2" pieces.

Then cut the stock float off the top of the breather line and clamped the line to it and the new fuel line hose I bought.

Extended it to the top of the engine with the rest of the stock lines and put a small fuel filter on the end to help keep the water out.

Put clamps on the ends of the stock lines where they attached to everything; front/rear diff, trans......

Zip tied in place, done.

I bought some 5/16" fuel line and cut that to length. After that I replaced the stock tubing and used epoxy to hold it to the body. You really don't need to use a kit for this mod

Default Extending Breather Tubes vs installing Differential Creeper Breather Kit

I still need to do this upgrade as well and was wondering about opinions of extending the breather tubes vs installing a "differential creeper breather kit)? Has anybody used one of these?

That's an interesting idea. Looking back at why we even have diffy breathers, it's because if the axle is sealed (e.g., air tight), when it is cooled quickly it will suck in air past the axle seals. Or, if you're in a stream, water. Of course, a hot differential hitting a cold river is perfect for this problem.

An open breather above water allows the internal pressure to equalize without pulling water past the seals. So, the germane question is: How much air will that device allow before the diffy starts pulling in water? Hopefully enough that it isn't a real concern.

So why, as I sat here typing all of that, did I keep thinking of " Deflategate"? ;-)
