I live in an apartment. Only reason why I'm hesitant on getting a dog. I've had them in the past. The ownership aspect isn't my concern. Just feel bad for the dog being stuck in an apartment.

I'm pretty active, so it's not like the dog wouldn't get any outside action.

Make sure you research the breed that will be a good fit for you.

apartments are rough.. there's always doggie day care.. but that is expensive. love takin the dogs up the "hill" and doing some snowshoeing though, they love it.

I was going to say something else, trail riding is one thing, but actually bouncing around on some rough stuff is going to be hard for your dog unsecured. My lab/shepherd mix dog isn't the smartest and can barely hang on in the bed of a pickup driving around (she really isn't very smart I feel bad for her). Also, some dogs are like "prey" oriented. SO say, you are out in the woods, you stop off for a sec to admire the sights, let the dog out. It "senses" something interesting in the underbrush and BOOM its gone for 30 minutes not even thinking about you.... I've had all this happen so many times with my first dog I could have just left it behind. A big deer came by and he had to give chase for like 2 miles. Squirrels, rabbits, etc etc

That's one thing I noticed with my friends that have dogs. They always want to jump out at smaller animals. They harness them into the seats so they don't hurt themselves. I'd probably do the same (dog seat belt).

I'm adding a sliding harness to the JK before the top comes off this summer. I took a turn going to Chatfield Res last summer and almost chucked the dog out the back.. whoops. I am looking to to creating a both on "fence" around the back that raises the height by a foot to help this problem. The only thing my GSD likes to chase is guys in hoodies...ha
