What usually goes bad on the xrc ones. I was looking into getting one in the near future but if it's something that has to be returned due to build error then I might start looking elsewhere. But if there operator errors then I can live with that. 75% of sale returns is pretty high

Well, I am not a smittyb fanboy but I haven't had any issues with mine (knock on wood) If i ever need to replace it I would shop around first. Warn to me seems to be like the Honda of winches. I'd like to find out what the Toyota, Mazda, VW and Nissan of the winch world are and go with the most affordable one lol.

I bought a Warn M8000 but it was a tough choice. I was looking at Engo which people seem to love and is quite a bit cheaper. But ended up deciding that after the warranty period you're probably not able to fix the Engo easily IF it should break. Where the Warn will be around a long time and you can buy parts to repair or rebuild it. I maybe should have got a higher weight rating but a snatch block will work if I'm ever THAT stuck.

Warn 8274. Have no doubt it'll outlast my jeep and myself. Find one used for 2-300 bucks and rebuild it. You'll have THE winch.

It seems like a hit or miss with winches. I'm looking at smitty or warn. But both I get good and bad reviews so I guess I just need to gamble

I just lucked out on a N.O.S. M6000 short drum at a good price. I will load it up with synthetic line and get the weight down close to 50 pounds plus it is a very compact unit. I am trying to keep the weight down on this jeep. I may later get an M8000 and swap the drums around and use the M6000 on a trailer. We will see.

I have been running a XRC X2O 10,000 (synthetic) winch for a while now. I have used it a few times to get unstuck and to pull some rigs out of trouble. I've had no issues with it so far. I got a deal on it though, paid like $500 on Amazon a while back with free shipping.
