Again, lift is not the issue as you can run 40's with as little as 3" of lift. You need to do research on suspension set up and match it up to what you are going to be doing with your jeep. There is no "lift fot 40's" Either go high and loose stability or stay low and get wide with substantial body trimming, you need to choose which is right for you. 40"+ tires are huge and should not be taken lightly when deciding to run them. Factory steering, brakes, axles are really not up to the task of supporting 40's on the street let alone on the trails. Depending on your mechanical skill set you are looking at starting around $10k to reliably run 40's and the cost just goes up from there if you are buying all new parts and having a shop do the work. In that case I can see the bill running up to the mid $30K. Once you get to that point you are going to be looking at some kind of power plant increase to turn those meats.

I would have to agree dont do 40s and expect stock axles to last for ever. Im gonna sound like a hypocrite but im running 40s right now. My rig has been in some pretty nasty places such as Morris Mountain, Choccolocco Mountain, and others like that. I did it with the plan to put axles under i wasnt gonna "beef" up my stock axles and make it work. Well so far its been around 4 months and its still running strong but i know its not gonna last. Im about to start my one tons in the next month or two. Waiting on my dad to get his shop built so i can steal the work space. Also dont even try to do a 40 without ram assist. It was impossible for me to turn when locked with the 37s and when locked now the 40s and ram i can turn locked with one finger.

What about Nissan patrol y60 or y61 axles or Toyota land cruiser axles to be fitted on a JK ??
They are widely available in my area and pretty cheap even for new ones
I have read in other 4x4 forums that stock ones can take 38s easily
So with little reinforcement, we can move 40s
Only issue is to fit and fabricate them to be fixed on a JK
