Default 1st time buyer.....need advice

Hello JK Forum!

This is my first post and I'm needing some advice.

We are thinking about buying a 4 door Wrangler and we prefer to purchase new. I consider myself a Corvette expert and with Corvettes I would typically never purchase from my local dealerships because they tend to overcharge. I'm an active member of Corvette Forum and they are a half dozen Forum approved dealerships across the country that always have the best deals. Are Jeeps the same way? And if so what dealerships are usually the best on price?

Thanks WackyBob!

yes and no. some dealerships will work with you more but many will match pricing if you can bring them what the other guys are offering. then they have the tredlightly discount if you are a member and millitary discount and a few others at times.

Thanks for the reply....so no dealerships that are really known for low prices great service and dedicated long history sales team etc?

For example...Kerbeck Chevy and MacMulkin Chevy are both Corvette Forum sponsors. They are the #1 and #2 volume Corvette dealers in the country with hundreds of Vettes in stock. They typically offer a flat 10-20% off MSRP at all times even on low volume special editions. No haggle deals for forum members. Nothing like that ?

Default New Jeep Purchase

Most dealers give away Cherokees, Patriots etc. When it comes to a Wrangler, they will work with you to a degree. On the 4 door, thats where they make their money so to speak. So its harder to get a GREAT deal. That is why there are no incentives(rebates) on 2 or 4 door Wranglers. Best shot is to begin mid month with a dealer or dealers then let them work you, or you them towards the end of the month when they need to meet their quotas. Good Luck!

Try using Truecar.com. I used it and saved about 3500 off MSRP. I waited about a week from my first visit negotiating on my trade in. I got them to go up 2k on my trade and I got a 1k rebate email from truecar which was valid. It was a win win for me. Good luck on your purchase.

You want any advice on what features to look for? I'll offer this up: most jkus you will find have 3.21 rear gears. You really want the 3.73 or 4.1 if you Re looking at rubicon. The 3.21 gears are great mall crawler gears, but suck if you tow anything or ever plan to get bigger tires.

Honestly 3.21 dont belong on any wrangler for any reason. Im pretty sure they are just an option so they can legally pass some epa milage BS or something.

I'm sure that gear choice is perfectly appropriate with 29" stock tires on 16" wheels, particularly on a 2-door. I think many people buy that configuration and stick with the stock wheel and tire size and it works great, gets better gas mileage and has to shift less (with an auto).

Not everyone feels the need to put on huge tires or 500lb of add-ons. For many people the 4wd is not about rock crawling or off-roading but it's about getting to work or moving your family in snow, mild flooding, other inclement conditions or on unimproved roads. A 2-door Wrangler Sport with 16" steelies, 29" "all-terrain" tires, stock suspension height and 3.21 gears is perfectly capable of handling this job. I bet this covers the use of 90% of Jeep owners.
