If the 2015 is an update, this thread assumes it will be "better." We do not know if it will be different and even if we find out there will be differences, they may or may not be for the good. Sure, a new transmission sounds great but you won't find me buying the first year of a new transmission. Car companies these days increasingly rush products to market and rely on customers for beta testing and software "fixes" and "updates."
Just saying the current wrangler is a good product and there is value in buying a known and vetted model.

I think there is a chance that the new 8.4" head unit could be added as an option to the wrangler sometime before the JK model dies. This is simply speculation based on the fact that in my parents new 2014 grand Cherokee, the option to select your vehicle as the wrangler JK is programmed in on the unit. I don't know why they'd bother to do this if it wasn't a possibility it could be added to the wrangler at some point.
Again, this is solely speculation. Just thought it was weird to have as an option in the navigation system when the system is not currently offered on the wrangler.

2015 & 2016 looks to be the JK to own as the biggest worry about the new 2017 may have independent suspension.
What I've seen of the so called new independent suspension on other 4x4's like the new Cherokee is the advantage of any of the 4 wheels can drive and the adding of rear diff locks as standard, but this is where it all falls over due to hardly any suspension travel. Just try and cross a rocky river or climbing up over a high ledge with all the extra suspension parts hanging down and no suspension travel.

Chrysler will definitely push back the new Wrangler as long as possible based on demand for the current gen. Right now, they run at max capacity. This far into the model means they are well into the phase of printing money. So unless demand begins to slack, they'd be crazy to release a new generation. They also tend to do things like add a new engine or something meaningful toward the end of a run to spur demand. Maybe a diesel?!
VW could get another 50 years out of an updated Beetle: move the engine to the front, add water cooling and modernize the shape a bit -- but they dropped the Beetle and came up with the Golf.
The Subaru engines are based on the VW horizontal engine to this very day...

Well its already been confirmed that 2017 is the year and we will see them arriving second quarter 2016. Sooooooo not to solid of source. Friends that work at jeep did say that it's 80% eco diesel going in and probably see it last year of jk to worm bugs out. If so that means late next year as a 2016 model may see it 🙌
