Anyone had experience with these motorcycle carriers?

Title says it all. These hitch receiver motorcycle carriers, anybody used them on a JK? I am in the market for a dirt bike and would like to use one of these for transport. But I'm kinda worried about the sturdiness and such.

So, anyone have any success or horror stories with these kinds of carriers??

And what are the chances of it being functional with the spare tire there

I run one of the Rage Powersports carriers... I think it's the 400 model. Steel beam, raw aluminum ramp and carrier.

It works ok for me!? I carry a '00 RM250 on it. Fits just fine with my stock-ish sized spare tire. In fact, the spare is a good leaning point for when you are strapping the bike down. With the bike upright, I clear by about 4" or so. Easy to get the bike up there - harder to take down. Once you get the hang of it, it's not bad at all.

I added trailer lights to it for safety reasons.

They make better ones than the one you posted. I used one to transport my road race bike on (300lbs) you will need stabilizer for a real bike but they work great with out for dirt bikes scooters ect.

To add to that -- I'm still gaining trust in the unit. It's been working great - I'm just a worrier. If you look close in the pic above, I have a black strap going through the motor of the bike. It's secured to my spare tire carrier. If the hitch or carrier fails, it's taking my spare tire carrier and tailgate with it

Just remember most the receivers max out at 350lbs. If you don't clear the spare I recommend a Curt drop receiver($65), it will hold the load and you'll probably be able to open the tailgate with the rack attached. Here's mine in action with 200lbs.

I will warn that if you use any extension or drop receiver that you might consider dropping the weight to 300lbs since it effectively becomes a longer lever.

Go get a $250 harbor freight trailer that folds up for storage and tow it. If you do go wirh this, there is another model that has an arm that pushes down over the seat and compresses the bike too so u don't have to worry about straps alone. Nothing worse than watching ur bike bounce or rumble down the highway when the weight shifts. Still, I'd do the trailer for same price if not cheaper

My jeep has 5" and. 35s. It would be a steep grade to have to run the bike up. U don't want to worry about finding hills to park next to also. I am just learning that. I got a sweet trailer thsts a huge pain in the ass the get the bikes in

I will definitely take that into consideration. I jut didn't want to tow a trailer with a jk. Not sure my little 3.8 would like that very much haha. Plus I'd rather be able to just throw the bike on the bike of the jeep an go rather than using a trailer. If that makes sense.
