BUG OUT ....Getting the JK ready...
#291
The Hurricane Prediction groups are chiming in on the 2013 season, and it looks to be an above average summer. Water temps are up and there is no el niņo or la Nina to impact the averages either way. So the potential is for around 20 systems from depressions to full blown Cat 4. Now is a good time to prepare.
A couple of notes:
1. MPG drops massively if you have to use 4WD. Your vehicle range could drop 40%. Plan waaaayyy ahead on filling your tanks.
2. Debris will be ubiquitous. Expect you will pick up a shinola load of nails, screws and glass. Carry or get Slime, this could be the difference between riding on rims or getting out
3. Carry extra fuel. In an evac scenario few people will start with a full tank. If a facility has 20,000 gallons of gas to sell, they will service only 1,500 vehicles from empty.
4. If evacuated, and your area gets hit, don't expect to get home anytime soon. If there is heavy damage expect a week before you see your house.
5. TP or wipes could mean the difference between being comfy or not.
6. If you have kids, get something for them to do. Bored Kids will drive you nuts faster that prioritizing you mods list.
7. If you have an IPhone/iPad download the app "you need a map". It is a standalone map that does nt require Internet. Uses UTM, great app.
8. Stash some hard liquor you like in a special go bag. It can be used for legitimate medicinal purposes. It may also correlate to upticks in birth rates following power outages and snow ins.
9. If you bail, everyone else around you is not prepared and has the brainpower of a sheep turd.
Have fun.
