Default Choosing your first jeep

So after thinking about everyone's advice from my past threads, I have lowered my choices down to three jeeps. Please help me chose which one is the best for the price(all prices are negotiable). Information will match the pictures respectively. Number one is a 02 wrangler x with 130000 miles v6 rubicon suspension and new brakes for 8k. Number 2 is 05 wrangler with 43,000 miles with soft and hard top for 14,900. And finally number 3 (MY FAVORITE) is a 2000 wrangler sport with 83,000 miles a 3 inch lift hard and soft top 2 sets of 5 tires western plow and leather interior for 12,500 dollars. Help me out with what you think! :excited:

Personally I like the second one because of the low mileage and the red color. You can find used parts and accessories cheap on Craigslist or forums, that way it's your own. In the end it all comes down to what YOU want not me or anyone else, but pick number two

Lol it looked red from the picture, maybe he was reluctant because he does want to sell it because its an amazing jeep and his wife said that either the jeep has to go or she goes and his is just putting it up a for sale to by him time because he is thinking long and hard weather he wants to keep his wife or jeep.....joking....or maybe it's a scam ha

#2 or #3....

Being that you are new to Jeeps, just so you know....JK (as in JK forum) is the model designation for 2007 and up Wranglers. You are looking at TJ's....which run from 1997 to 2006.

Great vehicles, but not a lot of expertise here.

With that said....it is all good. Thank you for your service.

I would go with #3. Looks like it has some other goodies as well like the Bushwacker flares.

I would NOT go with #2. Being a 2005 you might have to deal with the OPDA issue that 05 and 06 TJ's are susceptible to. Read up about it on another Jeep forum and you'll see what I'm talking about. A lot of folks start seeing the OPDA issue right about that mileage too. I'd stay away from #2 if it was me.

Number 3 for me too Devil dog. I know how little a Marine makes so it may take awhile to mod it and it looks ready to hit the trails now. Ooh Rah!

IMO;

I'm going with the second Jeep, for reasons below;

#3 Jeep;"2000 TJ-Sport"

1.Plow is nice, but stress on the frame is insane.
Be sure if this is the one you want to have it checked out
by a mechanic that knows what he is doing.

2.Leather is fine, but in the Winter it's damn cold and in
the Summer it's damn hot!! Cloth or synthetic is better.

3. 2000 wrangler sport with 83,000 miles. That's just under
7K miles a year,(6,900/yr.). Close to the ideal mileage of 6K/yr.

4. Sport: 1997-2006 came standard with 4.0 L.
The Dana 35 rear axle, 3.73 axle ratio, and 30" wheel
and tire group are optional. Consumers who opted for the
6 cylinder engines could also upgrade the rear axle to the Dana 44,
which featured 4.10 gears and a Tru-Lok limited slip differential case.

5. It's twelve years old, already. that's 12 yrs of someone
else's wear & tear. Hope He kept great records of all the
oil changes, lube jobs, filter replacements, tire rotations,
tune-ups, accessory add-ons, and whatever else needs
to be kept a record of....

6. not enough information to give a better account of the
pro's and cons on this vehicle.

#1 Jeep;"2002 TJ-X"

1. X: 2002 came standard with 4.0L but with no Dana 44 rear axle option.

2. V6, Not original engine. The TJ had the following engines;
A. 4.0 L AMC 242 Straight-6
B. 2.5 L AMC 150 Inline-4 was available on entry-level models.

3.130,000 miles. That's 13K miles a year. Giving you a good
idea that there are a lot of highway miles on this vehicle.

4. This is a Ten year old....Same Note from stated above for #5.

#2 Jeep;"2005 TJ"

More information is need for a better opinion, but;

1. Depending on the Trim package I could tell you more.

2. 2006 was the last yr of the production of the TJ series
so the 2005's had most of the bugs worked out.

3. At 43K miles that's just over 6K miles a year. This is the ideal
ratio of miles to yrs.

4. This is only a 7yr old jeep. It has the least amount of wear & tear,
(Depending on how it was used).

5. On the OPDA issues; Yes, there is a pretty good chance for
(Oil Pump Drive Assembly) failure. But there has been so much
information written up and video taped on it, I would feel confident
replacing this part, myself.

__________________________________________________ ____________________

That's my

IMO; I would pick #2 and try to work the buyer down
to about $14K or as close to that number as I could.
I would use the OPDA replacement as a bargaining chip.
Then I'd go to work on building this TJ into the true
monster it wants to be.

Hope this helps, but if it doesn't.....

Best of Luck on Your decision.
After all, It is Only Your decision as the One that Matters.
