Default DIY Trunk/Cargo Cover

Saw lots of these done on here and really liked the look.

I take my sweet time doing things, so I'm no reference for that, but I'd imagine the average-skilled wood worker/DIYer could knock it out in an afternoon.

The things that were important to me were:

1. Seamless look.
2. Flush/factory look where it meets the tailgate and around the roll bars.

I wasn't overly concerned with security, but even as is, it's a great deterrent. Won't keep a thief out because, well...they're a thief. But I do like that Ivan jeep golf clubs, sub, clothes, etc. out of sight and the elements.

I used ones 1/2" plywood, 4' cut marine carpet, 2 tubes of liquid nails, hot glue for corners, and some wood screws.

The way I designed it, it just wedges itself into place without any need of bolting on, etc.

Suits me fine. Any specific questions, please ask, as I feel incredibly indebted to you fine folks as is!!

My first wrangler, by the way. Bought in August. 2007 jku Sahara.

A few notes after adding the photos-I did "burn" the edges of the carpet to jeep it from freying. I used a torch for pipe sweating...it worked well.

I use the motto that no tool, especially those with open flames, is safe without the consumption of alcohol. Like a good Oktoberfest.

And no decent DIYer works without a sidekick, mine being Jonah, our Weimaraner who wants to know what the hell I'm doing to his car.

Enjoy.

Btw, the "seam" between the two pieces that crosses by the roll bars is much more visible in pics than in person.

Thought that kinda debunked my whole "seamless" effort...!! Fail.

Thanks man. I'm pleased with how it turned out. Hope it lasts, but even if it doesn't-for $30-really can't complain.

Thanks guys! It's held up really well and the soft top goes on with no issues at all. Even if I just fold it back (without totally removing it), it sits on top just fine. The carpet I used was from Lowes-they keep it on a large roll and they cut it for you.

Oh-and another added benefit for anyone with a sub.., it basically creates a sounds barrier for the waves to reverb off of. So combined with a down firing box-incredible sound, top or no top.

Go for it-you won't be sorry!
