Default Heater

I have a stock 2012 wrangler sport. There is a light on the rear defrost knob where if you push it the rear defroster should turn on but nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong or is my jeep not equipped with rear defrost?

You mean it won't melt the frost on the rear glass?

Keep in mind it is a soft top. Is this something that only comes with hard tops?

That's the issue, then. There is no rear defroster on the plastic rear window on the soft top.

What I don't know is whether or not the indicator light should come on if there is no rear defroster plugged into the rear harness.

I never thought to look, I assumed maybe they would be close to the wheel wells in the trunk area.

The rear window defogger is applied to the hard top's rear lift gate glass like a decal. It will look like thin wires running horizontally.

The light doesn't come on but the "light" is there. Where it should come on. Guess its for hard tops only....

Correct, light will only come on when the hard top harness is plugged in to complete the circuit. The only way to clear off the rear window of frost is blast the heater and aim the vent towards the back. Another trick I learned years ago was to place a sheet over the top an drape it over the windows. the frost sticks to the sheet and leaves the windows clear. Just pull it off and throw it in the back and you are good to go. Also works well to clear snow and freezing rain. I've alos know people to get cab covers to accomplish this, but an old sheet is much less expensive.
