Funny seeing this thread since I posted back in 2011. Just sold my 2007 JKUX at 198,500 miles. It was showing signs of age but it was still running. I can't imagine how much synthetic oil it's leaked or burned (or whatever it does with it when it disappears) over the years...

My '07 at 171K miles has never consumed oil. Broke it in for 6K miles on dino, then synth ever since. Just like all my vehicles since the late 70s.

I don't know when you switched to synth, and I know folks will argue this, but an engine will not break in properly if not broken in on dino. The exceptions delivered OEM with synth are built to much different, costly tolerances. Even Tom Sheppard confirms this in VDE, the bible of extended vehicle use around the world. Those who own JKs and ran synth early were just lucky in their tolerances.

I think so - it was trade-in value and followed NADA. The mileage is an obvious factor and the fact that I still had the check engine light didn't help. But the Jeep was otherwise in good shape on the outside and inside. They do hold their value. Search across craigslist (using something like searchtempest to get a sense of values as well as NADA, etc.

What is the recommendation in terms of how long to wait before switching from the factory oil to synth.
