Is a Hybrid Wrangler Good Enough for You?

If Tesla made an all- electric small truck, 4x4 of course, that would get things Rolling .
I would love that, if in a bare bones configuration, priced in the $20,000 range.

If Tesla made that vehicle, it would probably cost $100,000. That's the rub. The political forces would have you believe that you should be willing to pay 3x as much for the vehicle and then submit to paying as much if not more for the electricity required to run it as you would have paid for gas to run a gas vehicle just because of global warming. Or climate change, or whatever they are calling it now.

Like all technologies, as time passes they become more reliable and less expensive. My mother bought a microwave oven in the late 70s for about $300. She was a secretary so that was about a month's salary for her back then.
Although electric cars seem slow to many, the reality is that we have to look at how electric cars have progressed within the last 5 years. Now a Tesla Model S is as quick (and as expensive) as a Nissan GTR while carrying up to 7 persons in complete luxury. The Tesla Model S was never designed or intended to be a sport car though. It can also charge back to 80% of it's range in around 20 minutes on a free network of charging stations around the country. Porsche, McLaren and Ferrari fastest cars are all either hybrid or plug in (918, P1 and La Ferrari). Chevrolet announced the Bolt, the first really affordable electric vehicle with a range of over 200 miles.
Technology also trickles down from the expensive vehicles to the affordable ones like the seat-belt, ABS, stability control, traction control, lane departure, ventilated and heated seats etc. In a few years we will see these new EV technologies as common. Almost all brands including MB, BMW, Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Chrysler, Ford, and GM have plug in vehicle versions either in production coming out next year.
Us Wrangler owners are similar to Harley Davidson owners, we don't like much change but that won't stop it from happening.
The near future will bring a lot of it and it may be a good thing.
