Lockers work by mechanically locking the two shafts of an axle together so both sides spin equally. in a normal open diff if you lift a wheel it spins and you lose traction on that axle. With a locker the wheel on the ground will still have traction. As for snorkels shop around and pick the one that works best for you in your price range.

Do you have any suggestions on the snorkels because I am completely new at this. Also any suggestions about the lockers. And finally do lockers affect on road appearance?

I would look hard at the rugged ridge snorkel kit it has 2 parts a low mount sitting just above your hood and the high mount is like every other snorkel and I believe it's 350 for low+high mount combination

I have the RR modular snorkel which I like cause you don't have to cut the hood and it's kind of upper middle on the price scale if you shop for the best price.

This isn't specifice to lockers but gives a great explanation of how differentials work.

How Differential Gear works must see 100% - YouTube

Lockers make both wheels on the axle turn at the same speed.

You really want to plan out everything you want to do with your JK before getting a snorkel as they are all different and allow other items differently.

For example:

Some will not allow you to use a dual battery setup
Certain rack/light bar and snorkel combinations do not work together
Do you mind cutting the hood, side panel, etc.

Also, depending on where you live, you might want to consider getting a prefilter and/or ram head. I have both as I am usually on dusty trails so the prefilter is great, but occasionally run into water. It's easy to swap them out as needed. I leave the ram head on for daily driving and actually had a slight improvement on MPG's.

I installed the AEV snorkel kit it ran 379 no shipping charge from Northridge 4x4 everything attaches to factory bolts and straight to the factory air box which was good, the only thing that i was scared about was cutting the hood but it was really easy to do everything you need is in the instructions which are very clear and easy to understand hope this helps
