Mall Crawlers
I am a newbie, and i see this term being thrown around quite a bit, usually to describe a jeep that has been built up with loads of mods but never sees a trail.
So i wanted to ask, are there really pretentious hardcore jeepers in the community that think the only real jeep is the one built for offroad use?
I guess i just dont understand. A jeep is a jeep is a jeep IMO. Whether you are a hardcore crawler, or just want something badass as your daily driver. I would assume the love for all things jeep should not be defined by any 1 persons definition.
I was excited about joining the jeep community with yhe thought that you were part of a brotherhood that did not judge you so long as you had a passion for owning a jeep.
So why all this hatred?

Nah it's a pretty good mix here. There definitely are some elitist assholes but not many and who gives a shit what they think. Now if you're talking about the guys on Wayalife you'd be correct. It's a pretty friendly bunch here as long as you stay away from the chrome :-)

This group and the groups at JK Freaks and Wrangler Forum are a pretty good bunch. I find JK Freaks, although a much smaller population, to be the most consistently cordial group. WF is very diverse. But the internet if full of keyboard commandos.
I stay completely clear of WAL and JKO for a couple of reasons. The WAL admin is some kind of god. Mentioning a manufacturer that doesn't sponsor him will get you banned. And the mob mentality at JKO where flame wars rage like California wild fires.
It's your Jeep. Build it like you want. Drive it like you want. Take it where you want. If anyone has a problem with that, then it is their problem.
Besides, some of the baddest Jeeps on this forum wouldn't survive some of the malls around me!

For me, a mall crawler person is one that bought their Jeep with no research. Maybe it has 3.21 gears. They lifted it. Armored it up. Didn't recalibrate or reprogram. Drives like crap. I have zero issue with somebody building a beast machine and never taking it off road. Just knowing you have the capability is enough in my mind.

Close. Cleveland. LOL!
This is a mall I used to go to when I was a kid, Randall Park Mall. Was one of the first malls ever built - owned and operated by Edward DeBartolo, Jr. - former owner of the SF 49ers. If you didn't buy it there, it wasn't cool. Definitely the place to be on a Saturday. The area has been declining quite a bit and the 2008 real estate crisis just accelerated it.
They have been steadily demolishing it. Every time I pass by it, I want to go crawling on the debris piles.

Many Jeep owners have a PASSION for their vehicles. They want to be part of a culture and embrace whatever "Jeep" means to them.
Where you find passion you'll find divisiveness. Whether it's politics, your favorite football team, or Jeeps.
On the whole the community is quite welcoming, but the passions occasionally flair up.

As for the mall crawler concept , I'm with whoever said it's yours , make it yours and screw the rest . Make a payment and potentially I'll care .
