From the MH FAQ...

Q: How strong is a Monster Hook?
A: Rated at over 40,000lbs. Break load at 93,000lbs

Receiver hitch on a Jeep is rated for 4500lbs.. Seems like overpriced overkill..

Something to think about.. Put a 30,000lb snatch recovery strap on the 40,000lb rated hook... Get a good running start and the 4500lb receiver gives out and the 25lb chunk of metal is now slinging through the air back towards whatever you were trying to recover at 100mph+ on the end of a bungee cord..

And it screws up your departure angles..

Ya, I agree completely... I ripped the back bumper off of my XJ with my Titan. All ten bolts, 8 into the rear and 2 into the frame, nuts and all, right through the metal. It's not really exactly what you're talking about, but it's the same concept. Those bolts and the 16 year old Jeep weren't strong enough to take the brunt of the yank and it just gave. Here steps in the 1/4" plate.

Looks like it may wear the strap down a bit...
