This past weekend we decided it was time to remove the hard top and install the soft top. This is a twice a year thing that isn't any easier each time. Calling friends, offering babysitting, etc. it is a ritual though. We did it with the '10 and this was the first time with the '13.
Unlike the old one, we ordered this one. We checked off everything we wanted and have been overjoyed with this new one. We ordered the dual top group and once received, removed the hard top and the wrapped up soft top.
This weekend was the weekend to swap-the-tops! Once the help was in place and kids were appropriately entertained, off came the hard top. Not a big deal. I had the soft top stored in the basement with the unopened boxes containing the hardware and windows. After retrieving all the basement items, we loaded the soft top onto its brackets on the rear roll bar. The new system since our '10 was made, is much easier.
We then raised the roof! Setting the roof up front to back. I thought something was different this time. I looked at the top and it was darker than the old jeep's top.
When we ordered this Wrangler, we briefly talked about the new premium soft top but decided against it, instead spending money on safety like seat mounted side airbags.
Well, we got the top finished and I had my wife take a look. She couldn't believe her eyes. Could it be?! It looks like it! We ended up getting the premium soft top! I double triple checked our paper work from the order and its not on there.
Is it possible the Jeep was delivered with the wrong top? I don't know if it was intentional, but this Wrangler has all we wanted and more!

I thought by ordering the dual top package you automatically get the premium soft top. At least that's what my dealer told me and we got it without paying extra.

So, after more investigating, blackbelt is correct. Turns out the dual top group includes the premium sunrider soft top per the wrangler web site. Turns out its a pleasant surprise, not a mistake. The story still stands though lol!

glad you got a pleasant surprise

In line with your request for factory "mistakes"

I got my jeep used from a private party that was the original owner
he got with the dual tops
so it has the premium top as well

i was still VERY newbie to jeep at the time this happened (first jeep)
I was taking the kids to Sea World in SD, CA
Though it would be cool to take the soft top (last minute decision)
so we could have the top down on the road
Firs time install of the soft top, at night no less, with poor lighting
with abolutely NO prior experience
it took some work, but went well
then I realized that had nowhere to store the hard top (condo/townhouse w no gargae)
cant leave it in the yard (dogs will pee on one side and eat the other)
so the hard top was going back on
thats when had a hiccup.
doing the fold up one side wouldnt release
remember the night time and poor lighting?
Could see what the hang up was
after 15-20 min got it free and off
the culprit.... ???
the right rear door surround (JKU)
the latch that catches the top to the door surround
had somehow lost the cross pin, that holds the latch in place
the latch was latched, but only secured by the tension provided but retention spring
that was also just enough tension to keep it releasing (to take it off)
the missing cross pin meant that the latch wouldnt pivot as designed
therefore it wouldnt disengage the catch
How the heck did that cross pin come up missing?
comparing both sides , there should be a plastic "hump" that keeps the pin from sliding out
but this was a brand new, never used, still in the box, still sealed in plastic, top
my only guess is mfg fail, followed by quality check fail
so I put everything back in the and said no soft top 4 me

decidide that isnt going to stop me this summer
already went to home depot and fabbed up a replacment pin
the liquid nails is curing as I type
