Stretched 2dr vs 4 door

I have never really gone head to head with a 4 door set up on 40's but I know I would not like to be dragging my JKU around on the trails. Mine is a dedicated 2 seater now so if you need more seats then that I guess a 4 door would be the route to go.

I am running a more mild 6" stretch with a 102" wheelbase on 37's(for now). Mine still has back a back seat, and is set up as a somewhat hardcore family wheeler. As others have said there isn't one setup that will be best for every obstacle. Overall I would say a stretched two door is better as it gets hung up less, turns tighter, is more nimble, and has better approach and departure angles. Also remember that most stretched two doors are very custom and include other mods like flat belly, and custom suspension that takes away some of the JK stock limitations.

I am at 110" a 4 door is going to be longer and harder to maneuver with the wider turn radius and will get hung up easier under the belly. Suspension set up will play an important roll in how it performs. You can see the rear tires are basically even with the rear bumper and I can drop off a ledge without hitting anything. I can still hit the front bumper on tall opticals that are near vertical.

This is another option if you want to keep a "stock" cleaner look. A company called jklwrangler does this type of stretch.

Couple of old ones on youtube, not much current with the double trilink.
