Default tires

i have a completely stock jk and i want to put new tires on it. i have 16 inch stock rims, and i dont know what size rims i would need to buy for 31 tires, preferably that would also fit 33s for when i save up enough to buy a smallish lift eventually

Your steel wheels could fit any of those sizes. I have seen folks run 33+ on them.

If you're looking to upgrade on a budget you could go with discount tires MB72 in a 15" for about 100 each

Consider buying a used/take-off from a Rubicon. It's a 17" rim and a 32" tire. It's a very good tire/wheel combo, and the price is usually very attractive.

There are so many cheap rubi take off wheels and tires on Craigslist. Usually about 8-900 bucks.
