The manual gets "kicked" even harder, because it has more gears.
It's especially the lower gears (1st, 2nd), because of their higher gear ratio, and no damping like in an auto, which are under greater mechanical stress, when sudden power is applied.
This may explain, at least partly, why the auto drive train tolerates more engine power.
The manual could, of course, be made stronger, but that would also make it bigger, heavier and more expensive.
And... I agree that the manual wipers win...

My jeep picked itself when i went shopping...i wanted a JKU with a hardtop and a 6sp. Of the 60+ Jeeps on the lot, only 3 had a 6sp. Of those 3, only 2 had a hardtop. So it came down to a choice of color. Detonation yellow, or Red Rock.
So, Red Rock it is.
Easy job for salesman, too.
Me: "Hi. I'll take that Red Rock JKU over there, please. "
Salesman: "Ok, great. "

I had to order a 2015 Sport 2dr because nothing was available, new or used , that had 3:73 s, with manual , on dealers lots. Plus, I didn't want power locks or windows. Only options were 3:73s, manual, air, hard top , less Iis more. I love it. Puts the Fun back in driving,
I didn't want to wait until 2018 ( spring, probably), the JK as I ordered it , is just right. Torquey, nimble, fun. Jeep.

I had an 08' JK 6 speed for 7 years, that was until yesterday when I got a JKUR with an automatic transmission. There were many factors that played into it but I'm not "ashamed" of the decision either. Many people on here want to make you feel badly about driving an auto but I don't see the reason for it. I loved taking my 6 speed out on the trails in So Cal and learning leave the clutch alone and hold your e-brake going down hill and all the other fun stuff that came with driving a stick on the trails. I obviously have yet to take my new Jeep out to a trail yet but I highly doubt it'll be any less fun due to it being an automatic; it's all about the love for the trails, the dirt, the mud, and getting lost on the mountain and finding new trails, I don't think the kind of transmission is going to dictate how much fun I have out there, or at least it shouldn't.

I like how I am the only person who drives my Jeep (because it is manual). If it was automatic I am sure it would have had at least ten other drivers by now. When the time comes I will teach my children and when I find a new life-partner they will surely want to learn and I will teach them as well. Until then, it is my vehicle and I enjoy being its sole driver :-)
