Yet another lost key thread
Ok, I know there's a bunch of these and I went through a few but everyone kept talking in circles. Here's the deal: my mother lost my spare and I never made copies. Called up the dealer and retail with programming came out to $200+. Asked about a discount (I work in parts for another dealer) still kinda high at around $150ish.
Here's my key:
Does this have a transponder in it as well? The dealer said I did but... I was checking out eBay and other sites and found this:
The one that's like mine is $52 but the years don't match up. The rock keys are cheaper but will they work? I'll probably just call them up tomorrow morning but wanted to see if anyone here knows. I know I still have to go to the dealer to get it programmed but that's only $40. $60-$90 for everything sounds better than $150+

I have a 2012. I bought my transponder key off eBay. It was a #46 key. It was 8 bucks with free shipping. My local hardware store cut it for free and I programmed it myself. Works like a charm.

At quick glance on eBay, I found a full function FOB for $47 which has the lock/panic buttons etc.
Get one of those and two of cheap ones without the buttons ( $7.00 and yes they work too, but make sure you have the correct model year range). Get your nice key programmed by the dealer and then program the cheap ones yourself and Put them in a safe (place) so you can always reprogram keys yourself even if you lose the full function two on the same day.

OP, you can probably get a better price from a locksmith or you can bite the bullet and get one from the dealer, then invest 5 bucks and get a blank key, have it cut and make a spare.

Lowe's now sells transponder keys. I recently had one done for my Honda, which cost less than $50. First, give them a call and see if they have one in stock. If so, take your key in and they'll cut it, and program it there. No remote, but you'll have an extra key!

Thanks for the replies guys. Heres my question, does my key even have a transponder? It's just a basic key. I have manual locks so lock/panic/remote start/etc isn't needed.

Mine is bare bones. No power locks or windows. Still has a transponder. I got a regular flat key cut that I keep in my wallet to get in if I lock myself out. It starts the engine but then it dies after a few seconds.

Alright, thanks! I'll probably go either the eBay or lowe's route and then make a couple copies.
