Default You think this will work?

Totally stock 2012 2012 jk unlimited sport (new) w 17" wheels
Looking to put 285/70R17 nitto terra grabber or 285/70R17 nitto dune grabber with a 17x9 wheel with 4.53 backspace( -12 off set)
Don't want any rubbing issue. Option 2) is 265/70 nittos on same wheel but wondered if that 9" wheel is too wide for that tire?

Default i have 8.5 inch wheels w/ 285 / 70 /16s

mine stick out about 1.5 inches no rubbing 4.5 backspace I believe they were ! not sure if that helps or not !Attachment 407832 pretty sure it will work with no rubbing however you may not pass inspections

That would seem like my wheel and tire would fit ok then.
Did you notice much difference in fuel or power when you added the larger 285's?
I would still like to know if anyone does if a 26575 will be ok a 17x9 wheel cause from what I've seen manufactures recommend 8 maybe 8.5 wheel width.

Hey jeep mojo, like the look of your wheels n tires. What brand tires are those? Other than your wheels n tires is everything stock, no lift or spacers?

Default yep youl loose like

4 miles per gal with nittos their heavy tires least the grapplers are but they work well on all surfaces I had them on my 2011 sport they dragged it down awful on hills but I had 3.21 gearing . I then traded the sport for rubicon cant even tell the difference from stock ones however I like the nittos better but for gas milage you cant beat the rubicon stock ones I have them on right now with gas prices being up there unless the gas dosent bother you but a few fill ups and it will start to bug you ! sorry didn't have the 9.00 wheels to answer the question solidly

trail grappllers to answer the other reply thanks they do look great and handle nice but they weigh in at 85 lbs a wack so ull see a hit on the gas but kinda worth the price if you ask me I use both tires bfg muds are not bad either realy its kinda good to have both I think! then if you want to go somewhere far and save on fuel you can swap out I get 22 with the stock rubicons on about 17 18 with nittos on highway

I have 285/70/17 on a 17x9 rim with a 4.5 backspace. The tire I got was actually listed at an 8.5" max but I've been running them on and off road for 30k miles with no problems. While I was shopping for tires I found a good few manufacturers that listed an "approved" rim width so check that info out on their websites.

Thanks mojo, yea kinda thought the nittos would be tough on fuel. Considered the bf goods ta 's had some once and liked them.
Considered doing the 265/70 size to be slightly bigger than stock but still decent power. Just was worried that the recommended wheels are 8 or 8.5 for a 265 or 275. I have new 17x9 wheels so want to use them if I can. Moto metal's

hope you plan on a tire carrier that wont hold up that long without bucklin that tailgate ! you prob knew that anyway and ae willing to chance it
I didn't want to take the chance longer than a week and then the card came out and or fab carrier was purchaced ive had it on for quite a while now I love this carrier or fab is the way to go in my opinion ! plus it looks beefeyer cuz it is ! but then you have to raise the light height lol it never stops

no lift in my plans id like to add a poison spyder front bumper and end it there wait a winch too but if its gona sag my front ill keep it basic maybe just a ps w/ no winch lol ive had lifts on my trucks their over rated tough to get inspections on and I don't need the height with 33s a lift dosent give the clearance its the height of the tires so it wouldn't benefit me at all actually it hinders me if anything

Yes I had considered that. But thanks for the effort. One never knows.
If I can find someone who has tried or used a 9 wide wheel with a 265 I will decide what to do for sure.

I've been considering a carrier (the Teraflex) but I have no buckling, sagging or extra hinge wear after 30k miles...
