Adding Passenger Side Rear Tow Hook to my '11 JKU
I've had been looking for the red rear towhooks for my '11 JKU, mainly because I wanted the flexibility of having a hook onb both the driver [I]and[I] passenger side. I found a great looking and almost new pair from another Forum member (Thanks again, Lidless!) and we did the deal. I rec'd them a few weeks ago and I installed them last weekend. 6 bolts and the stock bumper was off. Another three bolts and the driver-side black hook was off and the red hook was on. Then... I noticed the passenger-side frame rail wasn't drilled for a hook. DOHHH! Evidently Jeep didn't start pre-drilling the passenger frame rail until a few years down the road. Measured off the other side and drilled small pilot holes (recommend slow speed with lots of break-free or oil on a sharp bit). Measured again and increased the size to 1/4". Used a reamer to do final alignment and finished the holes to ~9/16" with a step-bit. Final alignment check then smooth the edges, wash with brake cleaner, quick shot of black paint, and install the hook. Only the passenger side of the stock bumper needed to be trimmed to allow clearance for the horizontal mounting stud/nut. The hooks look awesome!
