Hard top one person removal
I have been checking all the forums to find an easy way to remove my hard top. I used to have my sons help me but they are both in college and my wife is not tall enough or strong enough to help. Now if I had a garage or tree I would not have posted this. I have a cart already I just needed a way for my self to put the top on the ground so I could store it. So this is my fix.
I bought 2 4x4 eight feet long and some lag bolts to hold it together and then used some should bolts for strength. Lastly eye bolts and some pulleys. Oh and boat wench for the lifting.
Parts list:
2 4x4 8 feet
3 5/16 lag bolts 6 inches
4 3/8 shoulder bolts 6 inches
4 eye bolts
4 pulleys
30 feet 1/8 wire rope
Boat hand crank
3 gate hinges
The brace was made with the scrap from the top bar.

Now once my "gallows" was constructed I attached the pulleys.
Then attached it to my fence at a 6x6 post. Which is 36 inches in the ground held in with some nice concrete so as not to move.
As you might see I have attached it to the post with hinges to move it out of the way when not in use.

The last bit of pictures from today's work. The mounting of the hand crank.
Now tomorrows job is to make the attachment to actually remove the top. I only need to raise the top 3-4 inches as to clear my high lift jack then pull away and set the top down. I have the hooks from some scrapped out ratchet straps. Thinking about a piece of metal stud and bolt an eye bolt in the middle. I got 30 feet of cable just in case I wanted to use it for the lift hooks, still working on that part.

So here is my first attempt at the roof mount. Probably will make improvements later, but it does work.
This was made mostly from parts I had around the shed. The hooks are from a broken ratchets strap. The orange hooks I bought as well as the conduit pipe. The wire rope is 10 feet total which I removed from the wench. I tested it today and it appears to work as planned. Help this helps someone without a garage or a tree.
