Default Best Mod yet

Congrats mate, that has to be one of the best ideas I have seen so far. Why DC route the exhaust properly to start with in the first place and make a decent size storage locker I wouldnt know. This will give plenty of space for extra storage, previously taken up by a massively useless exhaust silencer.
Anyway thanks for posting diagrams and pics.

I was thinking of using an 81mm ammo can (see picture) as the tub. It should be plenty strong but don't know if it will fit and won't have my jeep for the next montrh to check it out (at shop getting fixed after a wreck). The box is 25.25" by 13.5" by 7.75" deep. I would cut the top off and roll about a 1/2" on each side to form a flat lip. Seems like this would make a very strong tub but question is "will it fit?" Too wide at front? Too deep and hit sway bar?

My jeep is at body shop getting fixed after accident so now is the time to install a tub if I'm going to do it. The guy at the shop thinks a pressed steel box like an ammo can would be much stronger and would hold up better than flat steel, especially if your going to store a bunch of heavy tools in the box for the next 20 years. He seems opposed to forming one out of flat steel, one because of his high labor cost to make it and second is concern that the welds wouldn't hold up to years of abuse.

I've been searching the net looking for various ammo cans or miltary storage boxes. Here is the box I'm looking at but let me know if you have other ideas or places to find other boxes.
