sPOD and Smittybilt overhead GEAR console compatability
I have seen various requests from other members inquiring about compatibility between mounting an sPOD switch panel and the smittybilt overhead console; but not one reply from a member who made it work. Well NO MORE. I have successfully been able to modify the overhead console to accommodate the sPOD
The overhead console requires the removal of the footman loop in order to mount the new mounting bracket for the console. If you are lucky, you kept this and can reinstall it in conjunction with the mounting bracket of the sPOD; if not, no big deal. Ideally, I re-installed mine in order to keep the console from resting on the switch pod as well as limiting movement from left to right.
On to the photos....
I made required cuts along the front and sides of the bracket. sanded as needed and covered with rubber edging
I cut a slit on the top; centered it to the foot loop. As of right now I have 2 zip ties there for good measure; I plan on placing banded hose clamp to secure the console. nonetheless, with the rear clamped down, movement is minimal.
Make sure to cut enough to drop below the roof line and gasket in order to ensure proper fitment.
Switch clearance

I am ex Navy; I was a Fire Controlman (FC), the Aegis Display type. Served 2 tours on the USS Bunker - Hill and was involved in the initial launch into Iraq and then following operations in support of OEF/OIF. You?

That's a pretty nice setup, bud. I have been thinking about doing this, and found your write-up. Question though... How do the freedom panels fit after install? Can you access that front loop anymore for the middle latch?

Was there ever an answer to your question? I would love to do this...only if the freedom panels fit.

Smittybilt overhead console with SPOD in 2015 JKU
I have also been interested in doing this but in reviewing the post with pictures I noted that your footmans loop is more centered then the one in my 2015 JKU. My SPOD is notched on the left side to make room for the off centered footmans loop. Knew I would have to make some mods to the console frame to account for the SPOD but didn't realize their was a difference in locations of the footman loops.
