I bought the same lights but off tuff led or something on amazon! 98$ for two of them shipped. They are knockoff rigid d2 but appear pretty good quality so far! Going to use jig saw to cut holes in stock rear bumper and hole saw to start. Bought relays and switches so I am only going to control via switch. I was going to use a 3 way switch but figured most of the time I won't want to use them in parking lots or my driveway because they are brighter than my headlights! Haha

Nice work and thanks for the write up!

Add a couple 3157 LED lights to your reverse lights and it will match the same bright white color. Couple bucks on eBay.

Does anyone know what bulb is used to illuminate the rear licence plate? Seems silly not to go after that one too.

Thanks
Dave

You use a hole saw so you get the curve at the end of each of the lights. with the 2 holes cut it looks like this..

Draw straight lines to the edges of each hole and use a sharp knife to score then cut out the plastic between then. You should end up with something like this.

What size hole did you cut? I think this is my next project Ive been wanting led back up lights stock ones just arn't bright enough!

Sorry, i'll go back and put it in the orignial post too. its a 2-1/2 inch hole saw. As its just plastic you're cutting you can get away with a harbor freight cheap one.

Thanks!
Dave

The lights run under $40 shipped and its about a bucks worth of wire and tape.

Cheers

Nice write up. Been thinking about how to get more light backin up, especially since my windows are tinted. Any pics of the area behind the jeep being illuminated with the lights?

Great idea, but since they're not recessed I'd be worried about possible damage offroad.
