Camshaft CEl causing jeep to go into limp mode
#15
Easy to get to...but does require some specialty tools for a pain fee removal and install. Even if out of warranty, im not sure i would want to attempt without the tools.
They are right behind each Cam Solenoid on each bank.

alright guys so I spent some more time diagnosing it and left the jeep for a couple days to sit and now I only have one code and that's the camshaft misalighnment one, so I changed the sensor but the code is still coming back but hasn't putthe jeep into limp mode. Does anybody else have any idea whatsoever that this problem could be?

CEL and Traction Control Light
I have had this same problem for over two years.
Always happens under load, but has never happened while off-road.
I currently have a star case opened and the Chrysler engineers are trying to solve the problem. It is actually my 2nd star case. The first was opened at another dealer, and they would always give me the line, "I have never heard of that", and "we cannot duplicate the problem".
So now I'm at another dealer, and they seem to be really into in helping me solve the problem.
Picked it up Saturday from the dealer after having the following replaced.
1.Phaser Camshaft
2. Actuator Camshaft Phaser
3. Valve oil control
CEL, Traction control light, and limp mode came back during my trip home.
Engineers will be called again tomorrow.
I found an Australian forum that said their solution was to replace the wiring harness.

I know phasers have also had issues.

Not sure if this helps but it's been found the harness going to the cam sensors or solenoids were too short(don't remember which). The wires would tension and create an open in the harness. The cam solenoids are at the front of the heads and the cam sensors at the rear. There is only one cam sensor per bank, it does both intake and exhaust cam and has 4 wires. There was a bulletin or TSB I recall. Anyway if you want to tinker look at your harness for problems. You could continuity check each wire by connecting to both the ECM and other end and do a wiggle test.
