I just went with 4.88 (Thanks Northridge) on my unlimited auto with Duratrac 33's. I haven't had them long enough to get accurate mileage numbers, but it's a great ratio for the hills in the Northwest. I'm happy with 33's, but if you would ever consider larger tires you might want to go with 5.13's. You don't want to pay twice.

Mileage will vary greatly with any jeep depending on gears, tires, flat area, hilly, speed, wind etc. For my driving style, and constant highway merges the 4.88 keeps me in the powerband enough, that it rarely downshifts, and I can keep overdrive on all the time. This should only help my mileage, since before gears the auto constantly downshifted on certain inclines. Or, i just left o/d off and that dropped my commute mileage by 2mpg. I'm expecting to get back close to what I had before the 33's. It went from 16-17 mixed, and 20 highway, to 14-15 mixed, and 17 highway with only the 33's. Whatever you choose, gears definately made it more fun to drive.

To the o.p....... i live in Luling that is on the (so called coast) of louisiana, therefore it is the same land layout. i run nitto trail grapplers 33(sidewall) 32 7/8 measured. auto rubi, 4.88 gears, no superchip, i do use a pro cal to recalibrate, NOT USING on board comp, actually doing the math i get constant 17.5 mpg @70 on the interstate. i do have bumpers, winch, and lift so that is a lil weight. once you get to 80 mph it does drop the mpg. take it for what its worth
