Yes this is normal.......trim rail 2 inches and put caps back on then grind the pinch seam at a angle just like the wheel well....fill gap in seam with jb weld

Exactly what I did. I also painted the pinch seam black after I applied the JB Weld. It looks factory. Be aware a sawzall will cut through the pinch seam like a hot knife through butter. Just keep that in mind if you leave the tire on when you trim it.

I trimmed my rails in less than 30 mins. I took them off, popped out the plastic caps, laid the rails on the chop saw, and cut. Took a saws-all to the pinch seam in same spot as rail was cut, can't even tell it was cut now.
