Regearing Follow-Up
I just moved from AZ to San Diego and would appreciate recommendations on where to go for a regear.
I was directed to EVO up in Fullerton and they surely look great by all my research. The only issue is that it appears they require a 500 mile gear inspection and fluid change. I respect their due diligence, but have not found that to be a requirement elsewhere. I just planned to do my own fluid change at 500 miles after proper break-in. Fullerton is a long drive for two trips in 500 miles.
Is the "Follow-Up" inspection standard at other shops and a condition of warranty?
I'm currently running stock 4.10 gears in my Dana 44 with a 3.8L engine, Auto trans, 2.5" lift with 34" tires. Going to 5.38 gears.

Thanks. I've called a few places and none "require" I return for 500 mile diff service but rather just a receipt which shows I purchased axle fluid and did it myself.
I've called four different shops and they each recommend different brand gears which is interesting.
Also, with 35" tires, they all seem hesitant to recommend any more than 5.13 gears but agree that 5.38 occasionally on the freeway is absolutely fine. They all agree that the 3.8L easily handles the revs but that it concern many owners.

For one it clears out any metal particles produced sometimes when gears are breaking in. Also, they want to take a good look to insure the gears have been set and have meshed properly.
I run 37's and the owner was extremely hesitant in going above 5.13's since I drive the Jeep daily and have no plans in jumping to 40's.
I am extremely happy with the 5.13's. I leave O/D off unless I hit 70 mph and then I'll allow O/D to take over. With 37's and 3.5" lift my rpm' are roughly 2300 at 70 mph.
Don't forget to flash you PCM once the re-gear has been completed.
Hope this helps.

I run 5.38 with 37s. You have nothing to worry about. I have yet to hear of anyone breaking 5.38 ring and pinion. I run about 2100 rpm at 60mph with OD on . I never have to turn overdrive off.

I have a 2009 jkur with 35s and 5.13s. My driveshaft spun too fast and got vibes at 75mph. I kept it at 72 and it was fine. Now I just moved on to 37s and 5.13 is fine but I understand why people pair 5.38s with 37s for just a little bit of rpms. Stick with 5.13 at the most for 35s IMHO.

Are you lifted higher than 2.5"? Do you have stock drive shaft? Thanks!
