I'm looking to get new tires for my jku. I'm looking at 285/75/18 or 305/70/18. I like the look of skinny . My questions are, is there less wear on the steering component and do they handle better on the highway , less squirmy. I know off road they may not be as good but most of my driving in on the highway. Thanks for any advise

The tire sizes you have listed aren't really skinny tires. Highway handling will generally improve with lighter tires, and having narrow lighter tires will generally wear less on your suspension components.

Those tire sizes measure out to be 35/11.5/18 and 35/10/18. I think those would be pretty skinny

problem is most 285/75-18 are pretty heavy. I ran 285/75-17 Toyos and they were great tires. My buddy runs 285/75-18 toyos and they are tall and he loves them.

The difference in width will be a insignificant change in stress on the jeeps' components and ride. A 35 is a 35, as an old wise man once said. 35 and even 33" tires are typically heavy ply and heavy weight, with the exception of a few non-LT lessor ply radials you can find in an All Terrain, and commonly in a 33" size. If you want an aggressive looking MT, be prepared to pay the piper in the form of a more stiff ride and a loud roar that will deaden your radio and your hearing after a few thousand miles. Good middle ground would be a Cooper ST Maxx (my favorite tire) or a Goodyear Duratrac. BFG AT's are also another great choice. All three are pretty quiet, ride good, look good, and do exceptionally well off road. The BFG and Cooper are also both known for amazing tire wear and come with great warranties. Good Luck!!!!
