There is more to the story.
I do snow trails and must have damages the bolt doing donuts in open fields. Who knows, Lesson learned as any future clock spring failures will be diy.
Thanks for input.

I would avoid doing a lot of donuts with the crappy stock steering pump. You will burn that pump up pretty fast....

I know they extended warranty to 150,000 miles in the clock spring. I don't know if it covers all years, I know it does the early year JK.

I just got a recall notice for the clockspring in my 2010. There are directions on it about getting reimbursed if you payed to have it changed. Op should check and see if his is covered under the recall and get some $$ back if it is.

Does anyone know how the $3 bolt that connects the steering column could have broken? My wife doesnt feel safe with me driving it or having the kids ride along as well. Hard to believe that all our lives were in danger due to a $3 bolt...

Which $3 failed? There are many bolts in the column and it's hard to believe a bolt "failed". 150k miles and my bolt hasn't "failed".

Location amigo, whereabouts in the column did the bolt break? Did they provide you with the bolt and how it failed? Had you done any work on the vehicle that could have resulted in the failure?

Bolt is located in the intermediate lower shaft. I didn't get the broken bolt. Going to see if they still have it.
