Check out the VKS Prerunner bumper. By far my favorite bumper and I doubt you'd see one around you.

Making one is pretty easy as well.

I put mine on top of the factory... Rock Hard Winch Plate. It's pretty accessible.

I got a winch plate from Harbor Freight and mounted upside down
It works perfect

Stuffed in a bumper is the last place you want it. Performance will suffer and you will run into overheating issues. Manufacturers don't warranty a winch that was burnt out after overheating. Not to mention there is no access to the spool motor for service. Every couple of uses I like to re-wrap the line. I can't count how many times I've seen a winch fail on the trail and it was due to a lead to the motor coming a little loose. To summarize, if you plan to actually use your winch, then it doesn't belong in your bumper.

I did this to my bumper a while back. Used a smittlybilt x20 10k winch and Olympic 4x4 recessed winch plate (for their Boa bumper). Just had to cut some holes in the bumper to make it fit. I wrote a install thread about it on Wrangler Forum. (Recessed winch project).

Not sure of the forum rules. Is it bad manners to post links to other forums? If not, I'll post the link here.
