tacking coils

Default tacking coils

Anyone tack weld there coil springs to keep them in? Watched YouTube video where th lost coil spring and they said he should tack weld in. Just wondering watch you think on this.

Id just make some retaining clips. 1 bolt and a piece of flat stock bent over the coil

You wont have this issue if you have stock shocks. Guys that pop coils usually run too long of a shock for the specific lift. Example - 2 in lift with shocks meant for a 4inch lift. The shock limits the travel.

If you are having an issue with coils popping - you have too much shock. I would suggest getting shorter shocks to match your lift height or longer coils to fit your current shocks.

A better solution to 'shorter shocks' would be limiting straps. They also help with coil retention.

I wouldn't tack the coils, but that's my 2 cents. You're making a headache for yourself in the future with any tack that's going to hold a coil in. Spring retainers or limiting straps will be the way to go even though they're more expensive than a few quick tacks.
