Skid Mark Extreme Duty Hitch Skid Plate, 1/4" Steel, Powder Coated Red - SM501RP

Thought about this but it is more $$$$ and takes more of my departure angle away.

What about this mount? I ordered this one and I'm putting it on in the next day or two. I've also got a 35 to mount.

Good idea, actually....

Daystar make an extended version that will stop that. Only problem that isn't addressed is the extra wear on the tailgate hinge. To minimize this don't open the tailgate unless you have to and don't leave it open for extended periods. This isn't the best solution but it works. I never at any point even when off-roading heard or saw the tire move much or act like it was straining the tailgate.
I run this exact setup and have had zero issues with over 50k miles on my jeep

Here's the mount installed.

It was really easy to put on. I used a press to push the studs through the mount. If you run a wheel that uses caps that cover the lugs, you won't be able to run the cap on the spare with the 3rd brake light relocated as it uses the top 2 lugs to mount the bracket.

If you want to carry it inside...I was looking at one of the big drawers from Smittybilt or Mac's Black Box. Then mount a pre-runner style angled bed mount tire carrier on top of it. You may have to re-inforce the lid a little. That way you have the storage in the drawer and the spare inside.

The stock carrier seems more than strong enough to carry the 35's. I have been for a while. I had to get Daystar extended tailgate bumpers. They keep the tire from shaking and pulling out the bolts.

I carry my spare in the back, 35 just fits, made a ghetto looking box to hold a few things, still have to figure what I want to do with the 3rd brake light.

I would move the light to the top of the box... Or an led strip across the edge.
