Default Top Heavy JKU

Hello, I have finally installed my rear frame/A-pillar mounted roof rack. The rack does the job as intended, but the driving characteristics have completely changed. The JKU is now extremely top heavy and sways sideways every chance it gets. Considering there are close to 200 lbs of steel hovering above the roof line this is to be expected. How do I improve/limit the sway while maintaining the ride comfort? Will a beefier sway bar do the trick and if yes, any recommendations? I also have a 3" lift and run 35's. Thanks for any feedback.

I would guess your lift, specifically shocks, are worn out. zone is cheapy stuff anyway so I wouldn't expect great things regardless. I doubt a different sway bar will do anything, try stiffer shocks, or adjustables like ranchos to see what you like.

Does your roof rack truly weigh close to 200?

You need stiffer springs. Springs with a higher spring rate.

Springs aren't going to do that much, I wouldn't start there. shocks or raising your roll center, which is probably more work than you want to do.

I would say look at your lift . I put a full exoskeleton on that came in at around 450 lbs with no side effects. And Im running a 4 inch lift with 37 inch tiers. Good luck with your quest.

I still have a set of Skyjacker Hydros at home, I will try these to see if this makes a difference. Regarding the 200lbs I was exaggerating a bit, the rack came in somewhere around 90 pounds, but by the time a kayak mount, a board mount and bike mount is up there and all is loaded up and strapped down, it will get close to it.

Do a little research on a raised rear trackbar bracket to see if that might help the sway you are getting. (look at weld-on options, or one that uses ubolts around the tube. You don't want to add extra leverage and rip the stock mount off...)

This is the Synergy version, which is fairly popular, but there are many on the market.

Increase your rear roll resistance. That is, add a stiffer rear sway bar. Check ADDCO, etc.
